The short version: we're building this site to WCAG 2.1 Level AA, and every change is checked by an automated accessibility scan before it ships. If something doesn't work with a keyboard, a screen reader, or at a larger text size, email us and we'll look at it.

Our target

We're building this website to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. We're not claiming that every page fully meets every success criterion today — that would be a stronger claim than we can back up, and an inaccurate one is worse than an honest one.

Every change to the site is checked automatically before it ships: an automated scan (axe-core, a widely used accessibility rules engine) loads every page of the built site and tests it against the WCAG 2.0 and 2.1 Level A and Level AA rules that a machine can verify, including text contrast, and the change does not go live if the scan finds a violation. Automated checks cannot catch everything — they don't use a real screen reader or a keyboard the way a person would — which is why the report route below matters to us.

What's built in

Every page has a "Skip to content" link for keyboard users, a proper heading structure, and a main content landmark. Every interactive element — links, buttons, form fields, the navigation menu — is reachable and operable by keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline. Every image has descriptive text or, where an image is purely decorative, is marked so a screen reader skips it.

Animation on this site respects your operating system's "reduce motion" setting: if you have that turned on, decorative motion is turned off automatically. The "Aa" control in the header lets you step most of the site's reading text up two sizes without relying on your browser's own zoom, and remembers your choice on your next visit. Colour is not the only way anything on this site conveys information, and text contrast against its background is checked against the AA threshold as part of the scan described above.

The contact and product-waitlist forms tell you, in text next to the field itself, if something you entered needs fixing before you can submit — not just as a general error message disconnected from which field caused it.

What we don't do

We deliberately don't use a third-party "accessibility widget" or overlay on this site. Those scripts sit on top of a page without fixing what's underneath it, and several have themselves become the subject of accessibility complaints. We'd rather fix the code.

Known limitations

MapleExpat, our mobile app, is a separate product from this website and isn't covered by this statement — it will get its own accessibility review before launch. If you find something on this website itself that doesn't work the way it's described above, we want to know — see below.

Report a problem

If any part of this website is difficult to use with a keyboard, a screen reader, a browser's text-size or zoom setting, or any other assistive technology, email . Tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and what happened instead — that's usually enough for us to reproduce it. We aim to acknowledge a report within five business days. We review this statement, and the site against it, at least once a year.
